Kool Aid Donut Holes
These donuts have a fruity twist because they include Kool-Aid mix. The mix adds both a burst of flavor and a great coloring. Use whatever flavor you’d like to make the recipe your own.
Yields: Makes About 50 Donut Holes.
Ingredients
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1 tablespoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ envelope of unsweetened soft drink mix (any flavor, such as Kool-Aid)
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 eggs
- 3 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Oil for frying
For the Topping
- 1 cup of white sugar
- ½ envelope of unsweetened soft drink mix (any flavor, such as Kool-Aid)
Method of Preparation
- Heat the frying oil to 365º F.
- Mix the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and soft drink mix together in a large bowl.
- Whisk the eggs, butter, milk, and vanilla together in a large, separate bowl until blended.
- Add the flour mixture until fully incorporated. It should be the consistency of a thicker pancake batter.
- Use a spoon to drop teaspoon-sized batter into the oil. Fry until the donut holes are browned on all sides (about 2 or 3 minutes).
- Drain on a paper-towel-lined plate.
- Mix the topping ingredients in a flat bottomed dish.
- Roll the donut holes in the topping while they are still hot.
- Serve warm.
