  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 large egg, beaten lightly
  • 5 tablespoons of unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract Oil for frying

For the Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of light corn syrup
  • ¼ cup of milk
  • 3 ounces of dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar

Method of Preparation

  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar in a large bowl. Make a well in the center of the mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, vanilla extract, and butter. Whisk well.
  • Pour the wet mixture into the center of the dry ingredients. Mix with a large spoon. Stir until combined. The dough will be sticky.
  • Cover it in plastic wrap and set the bowl in the refrigerator for an hour.
  • Remove the dough and place it on the well-floured surface. Roll the dough out to be about ½-inch thick.
  • Use a doughnut or biscuit cutter to cut circles out of the dough. Try using a bottle cap for the small circles if you do not have a donut cutter.
  • Heat the oil in the large saucepan over medium heat. It should be 2 or 3 inches deep. Heat the oil until 360º F.
  • Fry the donuts in batches of 2 or 3 for about 2 minutes per side. Each side should be puffed and golden brown.
  • Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and set them on paper towels.
  • Heat a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the butter, vanilla, milk, and corn syrup. Whisk to combine.
  • Once the butter is melted, reduce the heat to low. Add the chopped chocolate and whisk again to combine.
  • Once it is smooth, remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the powdered sugar, and stir constantly until there are no lumps.
  • Dip each donut into the glaze and cover with sprinkles. Let it sit for about 30 minutes before serving.
