Ingredients for making Baked Apple Donuts

Batter

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 cups diced apples
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Toppings

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions for making Baked Apple Donuts

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two mini doughnut pans.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl; mix together with a fork until combined.
  3. Add shortening and mix with the fork until broken up into small clumps.
  4. Mix together apples, milk, and eggs in a separate bowl.
  5. Add to flour mixture and stir just until blended. Spoon batter into the prepared doughnut pans.
  6. Bake Donuts in the preheated oven until slightly browned on the bottoms, about 10 minutes. Remove from pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. While Donuts are cooling, place melted butter in a shallow bowl.
  8. Mix together 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon in another shallow bowl. Dip cooled Donuts in butter and then sugar mixture to coat.
