Orange Cranberry Donuts

These southern-style donuts are sure to be a crowd pleaser. They only take about half an hour to make, and the fruity flavors make this recipe burst with flavor.

Yields: Makes 12 Donuts.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons of sour cream
  • 1 ½ cup of flour, sifted
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 4 tablespoons of butter, room temperature
  • 1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup of dried cranberries
  • Zest of one orange
  • 1 tablespoon of orange juice
  • 1 egg

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of orange juice

Method of Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350º F and lightly grease a donut pan.
  • Whisk the milk and sour cream together in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in another small bowl. Set aside.
  • Using a large bowl or stand mixer, mix the butter and sugar together until it is smooth and fluffy (about 1 minute).
  • Add the egg, zest, and orange juice. Beat for 30 seconds, scraping the sides if necessary.
  • Combine all of the ingredients, alternating the flour and milk mixtures until they are just blended.
  • Add the dried cranberries and beat until combined evenly.
  • Transfer the batter to a Ziploc bag with the tip cut off.
  • Fill the donut pan ¾ full.
  • Bake about 11 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Remove the donuts from the pan, and allow the donuts to cool on a wire rack.
  • Place wax paper under a wire rack.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and orange juice together until it is smooth.
  • Dip the top of each donut into the glaze, and transfer the donut to the wire rack. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the glaze to set.
  • Serve immediately.
