Orange Cranberry Donuts
These southern-style donuts are sure to be a crowd pleaser. They only take about half an hour to make, and the fruity flavors make this recipe burst with flavor.
Yields: Makes 12 Donuts.
Ingredients
- ½ cup of whole milk
- 2 tablespoons of sour cream
- 1 ½ cup of flour, sifted
- ½ cup of sugar
- 4 tablespoons of butter, room temperature
- 1 ½ teaspoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ cup of dried cranberries
- Zest of one orange
- 1 tablespoon of orange juice
- 1 egg
For the Glaze
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of orange juice
Method of Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350º F and lightly grease a donut pan.
- Whisk the milk and sour cream together in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt together in another small bowl. Set aside.
- Using a large bowl or stand mixer, mix the butter and sugar together until it is smooth and fluffy (about 1 minute).
- Add the egg, zest, and orange juice. Beat for 30 seconds, scraping the sides if necessary.
- Combine all of the ingredients, alternating the flour and milk mixtures until they are just blended.
- Add the dried cranberries and beat until combined evenly.
- Transfer the batter to a Ziploc bag with the tip cut off.
- Fill the donut pan ¾ full.
- Bake about 11 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Remove the donuts from the pan, and allow the donuts to cool on a wire rack.
- Place wax paper under a wire rack.
- In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and orange juice together until it is smooth.
- Dip the top of each donut into the glaze, and transfer the donut to the wire rack. Let it sit for 5 minutes to allow the glaze to set.
- Serve immediately.
