Easy Jelly Donuts
These donuts use white bread, so it is great to use up bread. Kids and adults love this simple recipe. Use your favorite type of jelly to fill the donuts.
Yields: Makes 40 Donuts.
Ingredients
- 3 eggs, beaten
- ½ cup of milk
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
- ¼ cup of sugar
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon of baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon of salt Oil, for frying
- 10 slices of white bread Jam Powdered sugar, for topping
Method of Preparation
- Stir the milk, eggs, vanilla, and sugar in a large mixing bowl until the sugar has dissolved. Set aside.
- Mix the flour, salt, and baking powder in separate bowl. Stir the flour mixture into the egg mixture until it is no longer lumpy. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or saucepan to 375º F.
- Make sandwiches with the bread by spreading the jam evenly in the center. Trim the crusts, and cut each sandwich into quarters. Wipe away the excess jam.
- Dip each quarter into the batter so that it is completely covered.
- Fry the sandwiches in batches for 1 to 3 minutes. They should be puffy and a golden brown color.
- Drain the donuts on a paper-towel-lined rack.
- Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
